In my PhD thesis, I define a tradition of women's independent moving image practice (WIMIP). It stands as an interruption to metanarratives about women's lack of agency in their own filmmaking and their representations on screen.
I argue that the history of WIMIP is evidenced in the distributed internet archive of women's amateur moving image making and that this profound form of women's expression has often been misinterpreted and overlooked.
Through my research, I have found my own history of practice and created work in response to that new knowledge.
