Early VHS Video
These experimental video pieces were made on VHS and Hi8. These works are about fragility and impermanence and arrive in this digital format still holding their analogue marks of character.
Captured by pushing the basic camera settings, such as exposure and shutter speed, intensified the colour saturation and extreme close up amplified tiny features, giving them the potential for unlimited screen size. These elements were not generic video effects filters but something developed in collaboration with the camera itself.
These moving images explore how amateur video may work simply yet they also express its complexity.
